Temple Athletics
Temple University’s Athletic Department wanted to re-inspire their players, coaches, staff, fans and recruits by rejuvenating the Temple Athletics brand.
Taking inspiration from the school’s beliefs and athletic history we created “Greatness Doesn’t Quit.” The new brand platform captures Temple’s passion and dedication to the craft, inspiring all to strive for a greatness–on and off the field–regardless of wins or losses. The platform was brought to life through a cohesive toolkit and visual identity that defined the student athletes’ unwavering passion of outworking and conquering the obstacles.
Since the 2016 launch, we’ve worked with the athletics department to create the content for their football and basketball programs, and also provide them with design, style guides, and initiatives that set the tone for all internal teams. We continue to push the platform with the goal of making each Owl team stand out on and off the field or court, and catch the attention of future players and fans – both in Philly, and beyond.

2019 Basketball Season
For the 2020 Temple Basketball season we worked with Women’s Basketball and Men's Basketball under first year, Men’s basketball head coach Aaron McKie – a Philly native and basketball icon in his own right. We created a campaign that was an homage to the city that bred both the man and the team.

2018 Basketball Season
Under coach Fran Dunphy’s final season with the team, the program’s iconic tagline, “Greatness Doesn’t Quit,” took on special significance in honoring a true college basketball legend. Capturing the exuberant spirit of a team the visuals for the campaign highlight the players passion for greatness by capturing them “in suspended motion,” while the type treatment features Temple’s signature cherry and white team colors.
Standard Black was responsible for the creative direction, content strategy, and style guide. We produced assets for print, digital, video and social media.

2017 Basketball Season
We created a campaign for Temple Basketball that utilized our visual acumen to present the team’s athletes as the new standout stars of North Philadelphia, placing them in a proud lineage of the city’s hardworking, all-star athletes.

2017 Football Season
Under new Coach Geoff Collins, Temple replaced an underdog sensibility with a winner-takes-all sense of confidence. We capitalized on that attitude while continuing to build on the existing Temple Football brand. For visuals, we used field lighting, water misters, and red gels to convey sense of the team on the field after a triumphant win, and aligned this directional new approach with the program’s iconic tagline: “Greatness Doesn’t Quit.”

2016 Football Season
In 2017, Temple Football was coming off two 10-win seasons and witnessing many players move on to the professional ranks. Standard Black wanted to highlight Temple Football’s new identity as up-and-coming, one-to-watch winners via a campaign that utilizes our skill at showcasing exactly what makes a great brand stand out from the pack.
