CFDA emerging artist nominee Willy Chavarria looked to Standard Black’s expertise in creating profound visuals that directly relate to broader cultural themes to help visualize and produce his Fall / Winter 2017 NYFW show.
We set Chavarria’s designs against the backdrop of the current social climate in the U.S., designing a dramatic stage hallmarked by a chain-link fence and stadium floodlights. The setting can be interpreted from multiple perspectives—a sports field, a social barrier—complementing Chavarria’s thought-provoking collection.
Standard Black developed the show’s visual identity, ranging from print and digital to retail collateral, and produced and directed two films (one featuring the hip-hop group h09909) and a variety of supplementary materials. The show was covered by notable publications including The New York Times, WWD, Wallpaper, The Daily Front Row, High Snobiety, and Hypebeast.
